Heat Press Instructions

How to Apply DTF Transfers

Applying DTF transfers (Direct-to-Film transfers) is simple when the correct heat press settings are used. Following these instructions will help ensure your DTF transfers adhere properly, maintain vibrant colors, and last through many washes.

These instructions work for most cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blend garments.

Recommended Heat Press Settings

For best results when applying DTF transfers, use the following heat press settings:

Temperature: 300°F – 320°F
Press Time: 10–15 seconds
Pressure: Medium pressure

Using the correct heat, time, and pressure ensures that the DTF adhesive bonds properly with the garment fibers.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Follow these steps to properly apply your DTF transfer:

1. Pre-Press the Garment

Before applying the transfer, press the garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.

This step helps create a smooth surface for the DTF transfer application.

2. Position the Transfer

Place the DTF transfer film on the garment with the printed side facing down toward the fabric.

Make sure the design is positioned exactly where you want it before pressing.

3. Apply Heat Press

Press the transfer using the recommended settings:

  • Temperature: 300°F – 320°F

  • Time: 10–15 seconds

  • Pressure: Medium pressure

Ensure the entire transfer area receives even heat and pressure.

4. Peel the Film

After pressing, allow the transfer to cool slightly and then peel the film according to the transfer type.

Peel slowly and evenly to ensure the design remains fully adhered to the garment.

5. Final Press (Recommended)

For added durability, cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper and press again for 3–5 seconds.

This step helps improve:

  • Durability

  • Wash resistance

  • Softness of the print

Washing Instructions

To maximize the life of your DTF printed apparel, follow these care instructions:

  • Turn garments inside out before washing

  • Wash with cold water

  • Avoid bleach

  • Use low heat when drying

  • Do not iron directly on the print

Following these guidelines will help maintain vibrant colors and long-lasting prints.

Compatible Fabrics

DTF transfers work on a wide range of materials, including:

  • Cotton

  • Polyester

  • Cotton/poly blends

  • Hoodies

  • T-shirts

  • Tote bags

  • Performance fabrics

This versatility makes DTF printing ideal for custom apparel, clothing brands, and promotional products.

Troubleshooting Tips

If your DTF transfer is not adhering properly, check the following:

✔ Ensure the heat press is reaching the correct temperature
✔ Apply medium pressure during pressing
✔ Verify the press time is at least 10–15 seconds
✔ Perform a second press for durability

Most application issues can be resolved by adjusting heat, pressure, or press time.
